Perliminary Task: Front Cover Textual Analysis
Denotation:
The magazine cover consists of a colour medium long shot of a man looking directly at the camera, showing his upper half from the knees up. He is positioned up right on a surface non visible in a still positioned; his arms raised and weapon drawn. The background of the image is a view of the sea joining the sky, and the photo covers the majority of the cover. Behind the man is the “EMPIRE” Masthead and in front of him are four separate cover lines in Black and Yellow. A bar code is visible in the bottom right corner.
