Main Task: Front Cover Textual Analysis

Denotation:
The magazine cover consists of a semi coloured image of a man looking directly at the camera. It is a close up shot showing most of his head and some of these shoulders. The man has mental features carved into a mental face the rest of him is not visible. The background of the image is dull gray, and the image covers the majority of the magazine cover. Over the forehead of the man is the KERRANG Master Head and in front of him are 6 cover lines in white and gray and a main cover line in yellow, red and white. The name of the band the image is representing is in yellow and there is a red line behind separating it. A date bar and information of the cost of the magazine are displayed in the bottom right corner.

Master Head:
The KERRANG masterhead designed in a solid black font with an effect to give the appliance that it’s incomplete as there are spatters of white throughout the lettering along with white streaks. Apart from the exclamation mark all the letters are linked together. The styling of the font is completely unique and doesn’t conform to any standard styles to righting which represents the content of the magazine as like the completely unique design of the font the music in the magazine is completely unique to the artists and their self expression. Character: The cover image is something created by a band or to represent a band to suggest there style of music. Compositions: You cannot see the position of the character however the medium close up of his mask is very in your face and the design of the mask is almost aggressive and suggests isolation.


Costume:
He’s costume is a metal mask and jacket, showing nothing of the character within the mask. This design has been chosen carefully to suggest the feelings of isolation like the man in the mask people who listen to the music of the band this character is trying to represent are feeling

NVC:
The characters non verbal communication is also very isolated stone expressions and no emotion

Cover lines:
The main cover line “Slipknot” that the character is trying to represent is the name of the band. The cover line “someone’s gonna get killed” supports the representation of the image that the band Slipknot are dark and their feelings of isolation The converlines of the names of the other bands: Scars on Broadway, Paramore, Dragonforce, and Blowing for Soup, Converge and Children of Boredom are all bands of a similar style to Slipknot

Target Audience:

Considering all these points, the likely target audience would be both male and females aged between 14 -23 as they would be the people in a similar position in life as those of the people in the bands and so would best relate to them and the music they are producing.

The magazine cover consists of a colour photograph of Lillie Allen looking directly at the camera. It is a medium close up shot showing her head and shoulders. The background is a dull mix of different shades of gray, and the photograph covers the whole of the magazine cover. Behind the woman is the "BillBoard" master head and infront tof her are 9 seprate cover lines in wite and pink. The photograph womans name is in white and the second biggest text on the cover.

Master Head:

The BillBoard master head though the buggest text on the cover is dull white with only 1 letter with a variation on colour thoughout the entire master head the "d" at the end of the master head has had the circul inside filled in yellow. The font used dosent stand out so isent the first thing you notice when looking at the front cover and non of the letters are joined and connertates llike the letters on the master head being serate alothough music is the freedom of expression depending on your tasts and ability music and be very isolated.

Character:


The cover photograph is of the very sucsessful singer "Lillie Allen"

Costume:


From the section of her visible in the photo she isent wereing any form of costume other then a white head hand designed to resembel a belt

NVC:


her non verbal communication is very innocent enfersesed by the white head band, the connterations of white being angelic and pure and she is looking directly at the camera.

Cover-Lines:

The main cover line "Lillie Allen" refers to her photograph


Target Audience:
Considering all these points the likely target tuidence would be males because of the attractive, suggestive photograph of lillie allen and femails who asspire to be as sucsusful as her aged between 17 and 28 and like her style of music.
